INTERCULTURAL EXPERIENCES AND HOW THEY CAN LEAD TO PARENT-EDUCATOR PARTNERSHIP CHALLENGES

In kindergarten, children explore group dynamics, competition and compromise. For a first born or single child, such concepts can be quite overwhelming. Through exploring the group dynamics, a child will discover different social roles. This is quite common in every settling-in process and can add to the stresses from the previously stated challenges.

A project on “Me, Myself and I,” or something similar, introducing the wider group slowly whilst the educators can watch the group dynamics. Books on sharing, caring and wider social skills especially with large colourful (but not distracting) pictures.

Singing together and about each other as a group to introduce that everyone who is present is together in this new community.

Taking pictures of the children individually and as a group and putting them up is also important so the children see what it looks like in this context to be part of a group.
