Fostering Transnational Identity; Strategies for Educators to Support Children Transitioning into International Early Childhood Educational Settings

The purpose is for educators to learn more about the bonding process, also referred to as the acclimation process, that occurs when children are acclimating to a new environment such as a new kindergarten.  The primary focus of our research and conference is geared toward children from eleven months to seven years of age whom are entering a kindergarten where the language(s) spoken in the kindergarten may not be the language(s) that are spoken at home.  Our research team is interested in how multiple languages and children's metalinguistic competency development affects their ability to form relationships and bonds with their educator and classmates.  By researching and preparing this conference centered on best practices that we’ve discovered, it is our hope that educators who attend leave feeling more equipped to foster all children’s transitional identity development in international early childhood educational settings. 

As we begin to finalize our conference planning, please know that there will be morning and afternoon small group break out sessions.  Please have a look at our potential small group session titles with descriptions as outlined in the registration form.  During the registration process, we’d like to hear from you and plan our small group sessions accordingly based on attendee interest.
