WHAT IS A SETTLING IN PROCESS AND WHY IS IT NECESSARY?

TRANSITION TO A NEW BONDING PERSON OF ANOTHER CULTURE OR LANGUAGE AT KINDERGARTEN

The first time in a new school or kindergarten always means a big change for children. Unknown faces, unfamiliar environment, undiscovered playing materials, new educators and all of that without their parents. Of course, children struggle with such a big change. Gentle settling in is important to ease the children's separation anxiety. In the so-called settling in process, the child is supposed to become familiar with the new educators, get to know other children, discover spaces and play materials.

Settling in is an intense process for everyone involved. The child is in most need of special help and support of caregivers during this time. The parents, too, are in need of help and support from the educational staff. Likewise, the staff needs mutual support.
